Eyemouth harbour
Written by Local Democracy Reporter, Paul Kelly
A formal planning application has been submitted by Berwickshire Housing Association (BHA) for 67 new homes near Eyemouth.
The development site at Acredale lies to the south-west of Eyemouth, incorporating an area of undeveloped grassland on the western edge of the settlement, adjacent to an established BHA residential development.
The proposals also include a new office for BHA close to the proposed new development.
The homes would be a mix of flats and houses with one to four bedrooms.
All would be affordable properties developed for Berwickshire Housing Association.
A report with the application to Scottish Borders Council states: “The masterplan delivers a distinctive and coherent residential environment, with affordable housing at its heart and a strong emphasis on placemaking, sustainability and long-term resilience.
“Through the delivery of 67 affordable homes, the development will make a significant contribution towards addressing identified local housing needs, broadening access to suitable housing and supporting the continued growth, stability and sustainability of the Eyemouth community.
“The co-location of BHA’s headquarters alongside the new residential neighbourhood reinforces the organisation’s presence within the community it serves, creating a visible and readily accessible point of contact for residents while strengthening connections between housing provision and day-to-day management services.”
The application follows the staging of public consultation events over the summer.
