Hawick Common Riding

A near-£2k donation is being sought for the support needed to enable Borders townsfolk to spend a penny.

Funding of £1,996 will be requested from Hawick Common Good Fund Sub-Committee when members meet next week.

The bid comes from Hawick Common Riding Committee to cover the cost of the extra toilets required over this month’s Common Riding weekend.

The additional toilets were required because of the removal of the existing permanent toilets on Hawick Moor, which were not fit for purpose, leaving only six functioning loos.

A report to the committee states: “This required an additional 22 portaloos to be hired over and above the 46 normally hired.

“At a year when costs are already increasing, the supply of extra units will be an added cost to the committee.

“The financial assistance requested will offset the extra cost to Hawick Common Riding Committee are having to incur due to permanent toilets being removed, and ensure its continued financial viability.”
