The achievements of young carers in the Scottish Borders are to be celebrated all next week.

Care Experienced Week 2026 will take place from Sunday 25 October to Friday 30 October and will kick off with a free, family-friendly event for care experienced children, young people and their families at MacArts in Galashiels.

Online sessions throughout the week will explore how family voices can shape decision-making and the role of safe and nurturing relationships in supporting children’s mental health.

The sessions will also cover how independent advocacy can help ensure children and young people’s views are heard and respected.

Practical activities will also offer opportunities to learn new skills and build connections.

A pizza-making session will take place in Peebles Tuesday 27 October while the first Care Fair for foster carers and kinship carers in the Scottish Borders will be held at Newtown Community Wing in Newtown St Boswells on Thursday 29 October.

Councillor Julie Pirone, Scottish Borders Council’s Executive Member for Education, Youth Development & Lifelong Learning, said: “The week gives an opportunity to celebrate the strengths, talents and achievements of care experienced children and young people, while making sure their voices are heard and their experiences valued.

“Every child and young person deserves to feel safe, supported and included with positive relationships and opportunities to reach their potential.

“I’d encourage everyone to get involved in supporting care experienced children and young people to help build a strong community – where everyone feels they belong.”

At Borders College, activities will aim to raise awareness of care experience and challenge misconceptions, while highlighting student rights and the role of the Champions Board.

A Cyber Escape Room will be based at the council’s Tweedbank office throughout the week and will give young people and the adults who support them, the chance to solve puzzles together while developing practical cyber safety skills.

Finally, the week will conclude, when SBC headquarters will be illuminated in blue to demonstrate the council’s commitment to supporting children, young people and adults with care experience.
