Lost Shore Surf Resort

Around 400 university students from across Scotland will hit the waves at Lost Shore Surf Resort tomorrow (Wednesday) for one of the country’s biggest student surfing gatherings.
Students from 10 universities will descend on the resort for the Student Supertaster, which will bring together university surf clubs from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Stirling, St Andrews and beyond for a day of surfing, music and activities.
The event will mark the start of a new year for Lost Shore’s Uni Surf Club Programme, which attracted more than 500 students last academic year.
Students of all abilities will take part, from complete beginners getting on a surfboard for the first time to experienced surfers looking to improve their skills.
Among those joining them in the water will be three-time Great Britain surfing champion Stanley Norman, who will surf alongside students and offer tips and advice.
The universities attending tomorrow’s event are Edinburgh Napier, Stirling, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Strathclyde, St Andrews, Aberdeen, the University of the Highlands and Islands and Heriot-Watt.
Lost Shore’s wider university programme will also involve students from Newcastle University and Glasgow Caledonian University, meaning clubs from 12 universities across Scotland and the North of England will be involved during the year.
The resort is also planning a university surfing competition in November, giving students the opportunity to progress from regular club sessions into competitive surfing.
Lee Wood, Managing Director at Lost Shore Surf Resort, said: “There’s something really special about university surf clubs. I was President of the University of Edinburgh Surf Club, so I know how much they’re about more than simply getting in the water.
“They’re a place to meet people, make friends and be part of a community.
“That’s why I’m so excited to see around 400 students from 10 different universities coming together at Lost Shore. It’s going to create an incredible atmosphere and will be a brilliant way to start the university surf season.”
Lost Shore’s Uni Surf Club Programme provides dedicated university surf sessions throughout the academic year, with sessions taking place on Wednesday afternoons.
The programme is open to all abilities, with students able to access savings of up to 40 per cent through the scheme.
Students attending tomorrow’s Student Supertaster can surf for £35 and sign up to the Uni Surf Club Programme using their university email address.
