Quixwood Wind Farm
Written by Local Democracy Reporter, Paul Kelly
A decade-long extension in the lifespan of a Berwickshire wind farm is set to be rubber-stamped next week.
Quixwood Moor Wind Farm sits roughly 1.9 kilometres south-west of the village of Grantshouse and 1.4 kilometres north-east of Abbey St Bathans, near the A1 trunk road.
Full planning permission was granted in 2013 for the installation of 13 turbines and associated infrastructure.
The wind farm has been generating renewable electricity since 2017.
Under the current planning permission, the turbines are permitted to operate for 25 years from the date of commissioning until March 2042.
When members of Scottish Borders Council’s Planning and Building Standards Committee meet next week they will be recommended to approve plans to extend the wind farm’s operational life by a further decade until March 2052.
A report to the committee states: “Extending the operational life of the Quixwood Wind Farm represents a logical form of development that will increase its contribution to renewable energy targets at a site that was previously considered suitable for harnessing wind energy.”
A submission with the application, from NTR, an Irish renewable energy investor and developer, stated: “No new turbines are proposed, and no changes are proposed to turbine size, height or location.
“The application relates solely to extending the operational period of the existing wind farm.”
