The success of a healthcare app will be monitored locally by West Lothian’s Health and Social Care Partnership to ensure its success.
The new app, MyCare.scot, has been launched following a trial in NHS Lanarkshire. It provides people with secure access to key health information.
John Innes, the chair of the Integration Joint Board said reviewing its take up in the community could help the app become “as good as it can be”.
The Board, which oversees primary and social care across West Lothian, is jointly funded by the council and NHS Lothian.
In her report to this month’s meeting Alison White, the Chief Officer of the Health and Social Care partnership (HSCP) said: “The Scottish Government has launched the MyCare.scot mobile app, providing people across Scotland with secure access to key health information, including medications, allergies, vaccination records and local health and well-being services.
“The app builds on the national roll-out of the MyCare.scot web service and forms part of the wider Digital Front Door programme being delivered in partnership with Public Services Delivery Scotland and COSLA.”
Mr Innes said: “I wonder if we as an IJB should have a view on the app, its roll-out and how effective it is in our community?
Pointing to the ongoing development and updating of apps once they have been launched he told the Board: “I think we should be trying to feed back our observations, and those of our community to try and shape the app. I think we should try to make sure that it is as useful as it can be.”
Board members agreed.
The first version of the free app will allow people to view their medications and allergies, check their vaccination history and use the national service finder to find local health and well-being services.
The app will continue to develop through to 2030, to enable users to check appointments, provide information about themselves and receive digital letters through MyCare.scot.
Speaking at the launch of the app last month the Health Secretary, local MSP Angela Constance said: “The availability of MyCare.scot on the app store is an important milestone in this government’s programme to give people a single, secure digital access point to their personal health information.”
He added: “Over time, MyCare.scot will make it easier to manage appointments, reduce the need for patients to retell their story, order prescriptions, and gain access to the information they need to help them stay well and supported. It will also be integrated with Scotland’s social care and social work system.”
