Galafoot Bridge

Pothole problems are to be addressed on a Borders bridge with motorists and commuters warned to expect disruption over the next six months.
The works are to be carried out on the Galafoot Bridge in Galashiels from Friday, July 10 to New Year’s Eve.
Due to extensive re-occurring potholes and reports of failed waterproofing, BEAR will carry out a full deck refurbishment in order to provide a long-term solution to the problem.
As a result the A6091 Eastbound carriageway between Kingsknowe Roundabout and Tweedbank Roundabout will be closed 24/7.
Further disruption includes:
– A6091 – Overnight closure on westbound carriageway between Kingsknowe Roundabout and Tweedbank Roundabout (overnight closure required during certain construction activities, dates won’t be known until nearer the time).
– B6360 – 24/7 Westbound closure on the B6360 to make it a one-way between the A7 and Abbotsford House in order to aid traffic flow through narrow section of B6360.
The works will prioritise westbound traffic, with westbound traffic continuing to travel on A6091 between Tweedbank Roundabout and Kingsknowe Roundabout for the full duration of works whilst eastbound traffic will be diverted.
Two diversions to be in place one for cars and one for wide vehicles/HGVs.
Cars will be diverted From Kingsknowe Roundabout, travel south on the A7 turn left onto the B6360 until reaching Tweedbank Roundabout.
HGV traffic will be diverted from Kingsknowe Roundabout, proceed south on the A7 to Selkirk, at Selkirk, turn onto the A699 and follow the route eastbound towards Merwick, at the junction with the A68, then turn left onto the A6091 and follow the A6091 to Tweedbank Roundabout, where the diversion ends.
A temporary bus stop on the A6091 to be in place for the westbound bus stop during the works.
