Rubbish in Eyemouth

A plea has been issued by a Berwickshire councillor after litter louts left bags of rubbish at a tourism hotspot.
Bins located opposite Eyemouth Swimming Pool were left overflowing this week.
It is believed the culprits were schoolchildren on a coach trip from outside the town.
The mess left was particularly frustrating for Mid-Berwickshire councillor James Anderson as there are four wheelie bins just 20 yards away.
He said: “It is incredibly frustrating to see Scottish Borders Council staff work hard every day to keep our town as clean and tidy as possible within the resources and time available, only for some visitors to leave areas littered and covered in rubbish.
“We are fortunate to live in a beautiful part of the country, and it’s encouraging that so many people choose to visit and enjoy it. However, with that comes a responsibility to respect the community and environment.
“If you are visiting our town, please leave it as you found it. Public bins are not designed to accommodate large amounts of household or holiday waste never mind being hidden under piles of waste, leaving bags piled around them simply attracts gulls and other wildlife, which quickly spread rubbish across the area.
“Please take your litter home or dispose of it responsibly.
“A little consideration goes a long way in helping keep our town clean, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone.”
