Midlothian Co-op members are invited to be part of a Co-op local event and viewing of AGM, with free lunch at Prestonpans Community Centre.

For the first time, Co-op is hosting a new bespoke event for its members based in Midlothian and East Lothian, inviting them to learn about the business they own, put forward their ideas and tune into a special viewing of the Annual General Meeting, broadcast directly from the Co-op Live arena in Manchester.

From 9.30am on Saturday 16 May, Prestonpans Community Centre will be offering a chance for members to put their questions to Co‑op’s leaders live. The programme also includes a performance by the Cockenzie and Port Seton Community Choir, a local film by Catching the Past – “The Co‑op & Community History”, along with a talk by Dr Susan Gillander from the new Co‑op Discovery Centre in West Calder (opening next year) exploring Co‑op heritage in Scotland. There will also be food products to try, along with freebies and prize giveaways.

As well as a free lunch, the event will include an open conversation about important themes put forward by members and big policy decisions that have been up for their vote.

Local members of the Co-op’s own National Members’ Council will also be available, to listen to ideas in the room and take them forward to senior leadership.

Marjory Hatvany is one of Co-op’s Member Activators, working across East Lothian, Midlothian and Borders. Member Activators stay close to Co-op members and other colleagues in the local area to deliver initiatives on the issues that matter most in their communities.

Marjory Hatvany has been responsible for organising this event, with 11 others happening across the UK.

She said:

“We really want this to feel like a community event rather than a formal AGM. Midlothian and East Lothian have a strong tradition of co-operation, and Prestonpans Community Centre is a great place to bring people together. Come along, enjoy the programme, and feel part of what the Co‑op is doing – both locally and nationally. You’ll be very welcome.’
