Communities facing controversial plans to introduce parking charges in their town centres will meet next week to present their case to councillors.
East Lothian Council is due to make a final decision on proposals to introduce on and off street parking in Dunbar, Musselburgh and Haddington next month.
Parking charge proposals for North Berwick have already been approved but the schemes have proved controversial with overwhelming objections from local community groups, businesses and residents.
Now East Lothian councillors have been invited to a Community Evidence Session in Haddington to hear the feedback on the final proposals which are due to be published on Tuesday, December 2.
The meeting at Knox Academy, on Thursday, December 4 is being described as a chance for councillors to hear the opinions of those affected before they make their final decision.
Community councils from all towns involved have organised the joint meeting given the limited time given for feedback ahead of the full council meeting on December 9.
Trader and residents from Dunbar, Musselburgh, North Berwick and Haddington are invited to the session which will be open to the public although there will not be an opportunity for questions from the floor on the night.
The evidence session will involve each town presenting its assessment of the proposals with councillors given a chance to as ‘short clarifying questions’.
Organisers have stressed it will not be a debate or opportunity for political statements”.
They said: “The purpose of this session is simple: to allow councillors to hear the views of the town centres that will be most affected, in advance of the vote on 9 December.”
