Signs are now up in Dalkeith town centre warning that fines can be issued for littering, fly-tipping and feeding birds.
The action follows concerns raised by local residents about litter, waste and the impact of feeding birds on the cleanliness and appearance of the town centre.
Councillor Colin Cassidy said:
“Residents have raised these concerns with me, and I’m pleased to be able to take action to address them
“These signs make the message crystal clear: dispose of waste properly, clean up after your dog, don’t feed the birds and don’t drop litter. Where people ignore the rules, fines can be issued.
“Everyone has a part to play in keeping our town centre clean, attractive and welcoming. Residents have spoken up — and we are taking action.”
The new signage is now in place, providing a clear reminder to residents and visitors of their responsibilities and the potential consequences of failing to comply.
