Deadline day is fast approaching for access to a funding pot that can help revitalise communities across the Borders.

Borders-born broadband provider, GoFibre, is reminding local charities, community groups and organisations in the region to apply now for its transformative GoFurther Fund before applications close at 5pm on Saturday, January 31.

The £12,000 funding round, part of GoFibre’s wider social impact strategy, is designed to help charitable groups deliver projects that make a tangible and lasting difference in the communities served by GoFibre’s full fibre broadband network.

Grants of up to £3,000 are available for initiatives that deliver environmental benefits, strengthen community well-being, enhance education and skills, or promote internet safety and digital inclusion.

Since its launch in 2023, the GoFurther Fund has supported exceptional projects across Scotland, including Escape Youth Services in Hawick, which secured funding for an additional youth worker to run its Friday drop-in clinic.

Other supported initiatives have helped reduce social isolation, improve mental health, expand creative and social opportunities, and strengthen local facilities and services.

Neil Conaghan, CEO of GoFibre said: “The Borders is full of people who give their time and energy to make life better for their neighbours – whether that’s delivering meals to older residents, running a youth club or helping more folk get online.

“The GoFurther Fund is here to back those efforts, and there are now only days left before applications close on 31 January. If you’re a local charity or community group, this is the moment to put your project forward and make sure it gets the support it needs.”

GoFibre is continuing to bring ultra-fast broadband to the Scottish Borders through the UK Government’s Project Gigabit, which enables hard-to-reach communities to access lightning-fast, gigabit-capable broadband. The Scottish Government manages the delivery of Project Gigabit in Scotland.

Build is currently ongoing in Innerleithen, Walkerburn, Galashiels, Eyemouth, Jedburgh and Oxton.

More than 26,700 premises in the Borders are already ready for connection to GoFibre’s network, enabling residents to enjoy seamless streaming on multiple devices, smoother remote working and rapid downloads.
