Digital learning int the Borders

More than 1,200 Primary 6 pupils from across the Scottish Borders enjoyed two ‘digital days’.
Scottish Borders Council’s (SBC) Inspire Learning Festival has returned for a fourth year at Springwood Park in Kelso, with pupils taking part in an exciting series of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) focused learning activities.
Hosted by the award winning Inspire Learning team, the two-day festival showcased the best of technology in education and aims to highlight digital and STEM focused career opportunities they may wish to consider for their future.
Primary pupils took part in inspiring activities and demonstrations from industry leading partners, including Developing Young Workforce Borders, Royal Air Force, SRUC, Skills Development Scotland, Morrison Construction, Rickerby, NHS Borders, Glasgow Science Centres, Plexus, Eyemouth High E-racing, Resilience, SFA, and live science with Dr Bunheads.
Councillor Julie Pirone, SBC’s executive member for Education, Youth Development and Lifelong Learning, said: “Now in its fourth year, the Inspire Learning Festival is a fantastic event, which gives Borders primary pupils the opportunity to enjoy exciting digital learning experience, through hands-on STEM workshops with industry leading partners.
“Digital technology is something SBC has boldly embedded in education through the Inspire Learning programme, and it’s really important for pupils to see how what they learn in the classroom plays out in the real world, across a number of businesses and industries.
“By experiencing different areas, we hope our young people will see there are valuable career opportunities. We want this festival to be really inspiring, and I think, that’s what it has been before and will be this time around.”
