East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership (ELHSCP) is investing in the future of its workforce and the quality of care provided to local people after becoming an approved provider to deliver Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) in Social Services and Healthcare at Levels 2, 3 and 4.
The Social Services and Healthcare SVQ is a nationally recognised work-based qualification that demonstrates competence in delivering care and support to national standards. The programme focuses on key areas including effective communication, safeguarding, health and safety, professional practice, person-centred support and promoting the rights and inclusion of those using services.
Delivering SVQs at Levels 2, 3 and 4 directly through its Workforce Development Team, ELHSCP is able to provide greater access to professional development opportunities, helping staff meet Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) registration requirements while enhancing the knowledge and expertise needed to support individuals, families and communities to achieve better outcomes.
The SVQ qualification is completed alongside employment, as learners take part in training sessions, workplace assessments and practical activities that reflect their day-to-day roles.
The investment reflects ELHSCP’s commitment to deliver on the Integration Joint Board’s strategic objectives which include, developing a highly skilled workforce capable of meet the current and future care needs of the local population and supporting early intervention and prevention measures to enable people to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible.
East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership Chief Officer, Fiona Wilson comments, “Our staff are at the heart of everything we do. Investing in their development is essential to delivering the high-quality care and support that people across East Lothian deserve.
“Becoming an approved SVQ provider allows us to create more opportunities for staff to gain nationally recognised qualifications, build their skills and progress their careers while remaining in the workplace. The knowledge and experience gained through these qualifications will directly benefit the people who use our services, helping us provide safe, person-centred care that supports individuals to live independently as long as possible.”
