Macmerry Industrial Estate, in East Lothian, could soon welcome new motor trade branch

An Edinburgh motor trade firm is bidding to open an East Lothian base at a gym claiming it has a better long term chance of success on the site.
Pentland Component Parts Ltd has applied for permission to change the use of a unit on Macmerry Industrial Estate into its latest branch across the Lothians.
And they say their proposals for the unit will fit in better with neighbouring businesses at the estate, which is just off the A1.
Putting for ward their case for the new base, they say: “The existing use of the premises as a gym is not considered to represent the most appropriate
long-term use of an industrial estate unit when compared with the proposed operation.
“The proposed Class 6 use would be more closely aligned with the established industrial and commercial character of Macmerry Industrial Estate.”
The company which already has established bases in Leith, Sighthill and Loanhead and provides both trade counter and delivery services to customers throughout the Lothian region was established over 40 years ago.
It says: “The proposed location would improve Pentland’s ability to serve its existing customer base in East Lothian. Pentland already provides delivery services to numerous East Lothian communities, including Macmerry, Tranent, Musselburgh, Prestonpans, Haddington, Dunbar, North Berwick and surrounding areas.
“Locating an operational base within Macmerry would therefore provide a logical geographical extension to the company’s existing Lothian network and allow the business to service customers in East Lothian efficiently.”
The plans have been lodged on the council planning portal for viewing and comments.
