St David's Brass Band

Following a successful launch weekend, St David’s Brass is inviting local residents of all ages, backgrounds and musical abilities to an open-door community music day on Sunday 21 June 2026 at the newly renovated Vogrie Hall.
The brass band (Scottish Charity No. SC047976), who recently qualified to represent Scotland at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, is opening its doors from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM for a completely free, drop-in Brass and Percussion Taster Day. The initiative aims to break down the financial and social barriers often associated with music education, offering everyone from absolute beginners to lapsed musicians the chance to try out a variety of instruments.
Whether attendees want to try their hand at the trumpet, trombone, tuba, or percussion, St David’s Brass will provide all instruments free of charge. Experienced tutors and band members will be on hand throughout the day to guide participants through making their very first musical sounds in a relaxed, zero-pressure environment.
The event also marks a celebration of the local area’s heritage, offering attendees and visitors an opportunity to tour Vogrie Hall (EH23 4HH), which has recently undergone major renovations to become a vibrant, modern community hub.
John Dickson, Conductor of St David’s Brass, said:
“Music has an incredible power to bring people together, but the cost of instruments and lessons can often hold people back. We want to completely remove those barriers. Whether you are 5 or 95, have never touched an instrument, or haven’t played since your school days, Sunday is your chance to come down, have a go, and see what making music is all about. We are also incredibly proud to welcome the community into the beautifully renovated Vogrie Hall, which will serve as a fantastic home for local arts.”
