Scotland’s top surfing talent will once again flock to Lost Shore Surf Resort this November for the Gathering of the Clans weekend and 50th Celebration of Scottish Surfing, presented by Lost Shore.

The event marks the return of the iconic Gathering of the Clans, also known as the Scottish Inter-Club Surfing Championships, for its second consecutive year at Lost Shore and celebrates 50 years of the Scottish Surfing Federation.

This year, clubs from across Scotland, including Broch Surf Club (BSC), North Shore Surf Club (NSSC), Belhaven Surf Club (BHSC), Edinburgh & Borders Surf Club (EBSC), Aberdeen Surf Club (ASC), Sandend Surf Club (SSC) and Lossie Surf Club (LSC), will go head-to-head across eight competition categories: Open Men (2 entries per club), Open Women (2), Boys (1), Girls (1), Masters 40+ (1), and Longboard (1).

Last year’s event made history as the first time the Gathering of the Clans had ever been held on artificial waves, thanks to the world-class wave-pool facility at Lost Shore.

Over the decades, the event has been hosted in surfing hotspots across Scotland, including Fraserburgh, Aberdeen, Thurso, Tiree, and Shetland, highlighting the strength and diversity of Scotland’s surfing community.

At last year’s competition, Craig McLachlan (NSSC), a surf coach at Lost Shore Surf Resort, took home the Open Men’s title, while Callie Cruickshank (BSC) claimed victory in both the Open Women’s and Junior Girls’ categories. The overall team winners were Broch Surf Club in Fraserburgh, who have a depth of talent coming through.

Reflecting on the return of the event, Multiple-time Scottish Champion Mark Boyd who is also Operations Manager for Scottish Surfing, said:

“Last year’s competition at Lost Shore was a huge step forward for Scottish surfing – bringing the community together in a new way while still honouring the roots of the sport. This year’s 50th anniversary is particularly special, and we’re expecting an even higher level of competition, especially between favourites Broch Surf Club and North Shore Surf Club.”

Lee Wood, Director of Surf and Hospitality at Lost Shore, added:

“We’re proud to welcome the Gathering of the Clans back to Lost Shore for its second year. Our wave pool’s artificial waves allow surfers to compete in consistent, high-quality conditions, providing an incredible platform for both athletes and spectators. It’s the perfect stage to celebrate how far Scottish surfing has come.”

The Gathering of the Clans weekend and 50th Celebration of Scottish Surfing, presented by Lost Shore, will take place from 28-29th November at Lost Shore Surf Resort, celebrating 50 years of Scottish Surfing with a two-day programme of culture, community, and sport.

Highlights include a free-to-attend public exhibition and book launch with panel discussion on Friday, followed by surf competitions, partner showcases, and a ticketed awards ceremony and ceilidh on Saturday, featuring live music from the Grouse Ceilidh Band.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the surf competition and partner exhibition, taking place from 8am to 4pm on 28 November, with free spectator access throughout the day. The partner showcase will feature exhibitions from organisations including the RNLI, The Wave Project, and UK Surf Cinema.

The event is proudly sponsored by Stance and Gul, both long-time supporters of the UK surf community.
