Hibernian have parted company with Head Coach David Gray following a downturn in results and performances.
The Edinburgh club confirmed Gray’s departure yesterday, along with Assistant Head Coach Liam Craig and Goalkeeping Coach Craig Samson.
Gray leaves Easter Road after 12 years with the club, having first joined Hibs as a player in 2014.
The Edinburgh native became a club legend during his playing career, most notably captaining Hibs to Scottish Cup glory in 2016.
Gray scored the dramatic stoppage-time winner against Rangers in the final at Hampden, ending the club’s 114-year wait for the trophy.
He subsequently helped Hibs return to the Premiership and captained the club in European competition, making 177 appearances before retiring in 2021.
Gray remained at Easter Road as a first-team coach before being appointed Men’s Head Coach in the summer of 2024.
He took charge of 107 matches, recording 43 wins, 29 draws and 35 defeats.
Gray guided Hibs to a third-place finish in his first season in charge before securing European football for a second consecutive campaign after the club finished fifth in the 2025/26 season.
However, the club said a recent downturn in results and performances had led the board to make the decision to end Gray’s tenure.
Hibs Executive Chairman Ian Gordon paid tribute to Gray’s contribution to the club.
He said: “Firstly, I would like to thank Dave for everything he has done for the Football Club, as a player, coach and, most recently Head Coach.
“Dave has been an inspirational figure at the Club during his time here, and he has been a true friend and fantastic colleague to so many at the Football Club.”
Gordon also praised Gray’s attitude and professionalism, while acknowledging the difficult decision to end his time as head coach.
He added: “Ultimately, this is a decision that we have not taken lightly, but unfortunately, one as a Board we had to make due to the recent downturn of results and performances.
“We wish Dave, Liam Craig and Craig Samson all the best for the future and thank them for their commitment and effort during their time with the Club. They will always be welcome back to Easter Road.”
John Potter will take interim charge of the men’s first team for Saturday’s William Hill Premiership fixture against Aberdeen.
Hibs said a new permanent head coach will be announced in due course.
