An iconic Scottish Borders backstreet bar is to reopen its doors later this year, it has been confirmed.
The Gluepot in Galashiels closed in November 2021 when the licensees retired.
The pub has remained closed and boarded up over subsequent years, with attempts to lease or renovate it stalling multiple times, though new local developers recently took over the venue.
The Overhaugh Street bar was at the heart of its community, renowned for a boisterous atmosphere, especially at weekends, and for lively entertainment, including karaoke.
Now it has been confirmed that the famous watering hole will soon be reopening its doors after positive talks with Scottish Borders Council officers.
A spokesperson for the bar said: “Having held very positive talks with both building standards and the licensing team, we can now confirm 100 per cent that The Gluepot will definitely be reopening this year.
“I am delighted and relieved to be able to give this news. Much has already been done and it is looking brilliant.”
One former regular, reacting to the news on social media, posted: “This place is iconic. Glad to see it’s coming back.”
