July proved a busy month for Eyemouth Coastguard, according to a new report.

The team’s rescue officers attended 12 call-outs over the period and completed several post-incident operational duties, in addition to their monthly equipment checks and maintenance.

Additionally, they hosted a fact-finding visit from local MP John Lamont.

Mr Lamont supported a local campaign led by Eyemouth coastguard volunteer Kelly Stockdale against UK Government plans to scrap hourly pay for Coastguard Rescue Officers, resulting in a successful government U-turn.

One officer also travelled to Seaham, near Sunderland, to successfully complete an Operational Rope Rescue qualification, an achievement which strengthens the team’s capabilities.

An Eyemouth Coastguard spokesperson said: “A huge thank you to all our team for their continued commitment, professionalism and dedication.

“Whether responding to incidents, training or carrying out preventative patrols, their hard work helps keep our community and coastline safe.

“Here’s to a safe and enjoyable rest of the summer.”
