St Fillans clean up in March

Ahead of World Clean Up Day on 20 September 2026, Keep Scotland Beautiful is inviting people across the country who litter pick and to join the growing Clean Up Scotland Network.
For more than a decade we’ve supported Community Clean Up Hubs and a variety of litter picking groups – promoting activities, encouraging volunteers to get involved and providing support and guidance.
Network members include community groups, schools, visitor attractions, youth groups and other regional charities, but we know that there are so many others out there who could benefit from sharing experiences, accessing resources and support and boosting their visibility.
Heather McLaughlin, Campaigns and Social Innovation Manager with Keep Scotland Beautiful commented, “We know there are thousands of individuals and groups across Scotland volunteering their time to make communities cleaner, greener and more beautiful.
“Getting involved in a litter pick is a great way to meet like-minded people and enjoy being outdoors, while making a positive difference to our neighbourhoods. Our network includes 120 Clean Up Hubs – which will lend litter picking equipment out on request – and many other groups which regularly organise events and are always willing to welcome new volunteers.

Our annual public perception polling consistently highlights that more than 80% of people want more to be done to clean up and prevent litter. Connecting those who are taking action and empowering them to do more in collaboration will help us meet this demand for more to be done to make Scotland litter free.
