The Scottish Conservative announced their candidates on Tuesday evening for the 2026 Parliamentary Elections. The Conservatives have chosen Keith Cockburn to stand in the Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderale constituency.

Keith Cockburn, who lives in the constituency in Innerleithen, was chosen by local members on Friday night, after previously serving the area as a councillor for the Tweeddale West ward between October 2013 and May 2017.

Having a three decade background working in a printing business, Keith has expressed that his experience in business shows that he is not a career politician and will stand up for everyone in Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale.

Keith explained following the announcement that it is a “huge honour” and he is proud to be elected as an MSP in the area he is proud to call home and has raised his family within.

Keith Cockburn said after his selection, “I am absolutely delighted to have been chosen by local Scottish Conservative and Unionist members to fight this seat.”

“I am proud to live in this constituency and it is where I have raised my own family. It has huge potential in terms of our economy, our local services and our businesses, but all too often it has been ignored by the SNP at Holyrood.”

“With my decades of experience working in business, I know I can bring a fresh voice for this area in the Scottish Parliament. I am not a career politician. When I previously served as a local councillor, I put local people and their views first.”

“Too often the Scottish Parliament is focusing on fringe obsessions rather than the real issues impacting people’s day-to-day lives. It would be a huge honour to be elected to represent Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale and represent their interests as their MSP.”

He expressed that he will offer voters an opportunity to choose an alternative to the inertia and incompetence of the SNP Government.

“I am offering voters here the opportunity to choose an alternative to the inertia and incompetence of the SNP Government in Holyrood, which has delivered only distraction and failure over the last 18 years. Only the Scottish Conservative & Unionist party are strong enough to take on and beat the SNP in this constituency.”
