A multi award-winning Indian restaurant in Loanhead is supporting one of Midlothian’s most treasured tradition after donating £500 to Loanhead Children’s Gala Day.
Supporting the county’s oldest festival, which takes place this Saturday, The Radhuni has once again pledged its support to the event, continuing a longstanding partnership which has seen the business sponsor the gala for a number of years.
The donation comes fresh from a major accolade for the restaurant, which was recently recognised at the UK Restaurant Awards, coming out on top amongst more than 13,000 curry houses across the UK.
This year’s £500 donation will go towards sponsoring the much-loved free Promenade Concert, taking place on Wednesday 24 June at Fountain Green from 7.30pm, featuring performances from the Midlothian Community Concert Band and officially launching the Gala celebrations.
Founded in 1903, Loanhead Children’s Gala Day has been at the heart of community life for more than 120 years and is recognised as Midlothian’s oldest festival. Entirely free to attend, the annual celebration attracts around 8,000 people to the town and remains one of the largest community events in the region.
The main Gala Day celebrations will take place on Saturday, 27 June, featuring a preliminary parade, crowning ceremony and a spectacular procession through Loanhead, with 10 bands, Brownies, Guides and a host of local community groups taking part. Visitors can also enjoy a full programme of free entertainment throughout the day, alongside all the fun of Slaters Fun Fairs.
A longstanding part of the celebrations is the Gala Day Court, with Head Teachers from local Primary 7 classes selecting pupils to take on honorary roles, including the prestigious positions of School Queen and Herald, who play a central role in Gala Day proceedings.
For The Radhuni, supporting the event and sponsoring the Promenade Concert is about investing in the community that has supported the restaurant throughout its own success story.
Habibur Khan, Managing Director of The Radhuni, said: “As a business rooted in Loanhead, community has always been at the centre of everything we do. We are incredibly proud to support Loanhead Children’s Gala once again and to play a part in helping preserve such an important tradition for the town.
“The gala is far more than just an event – it is part of Loanhead’s identity and creates memories for generations of local families. We’ve proudly sponsored the Promenade Concert for several years and are delighted to continue doing so.”
Ross Perfect, Chairman of Loanhead Children’s Gala Day, said: “Support from local businesses such as The Radhuni is essential in helping us continue this historic tradition. Loanhead Children’s Gala has brought generations of families together since 1903 and remains a cornerstone of community life in the town.
“We are extremely grateful for The Radhuni’s continued generosity and commitment to Loanhead. Their support will help ensure that this year’s Promenade Concert and Gala Day celebrations can be enjoyed by everyone.”
