Midlothian MP Kirsty McNeill has been appointed Minister of State for International Development following her previous role as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Scotland.
Taking up her new post at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, the new role follows over two years in the Scotland Office.
Now the Minister of State for International Development and Africa, her new role oversees international development policy, handling day-to-day delivery of international development strategy and official development assistance.
Appointed on 21 July, Kirsty McNeill MP explained:
“I am absolutely delighted to be taking up a new post as Minister of State for International Development and Africa at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
“I have so enjoyed the past two years as the Minister for Scotland and I’m incredibly proud to be back working on questions of global poverty and international justice – a field I’ve worked in for decades, going back to 2005 when I helped organise the Make Poverty History march in Edinburgh, as we tried to answer Mandela’s call to be a great generation. We’re still trying. In this job I’ll give it my all.”
With Andy Burnham being the new Prime Minister, Kirsty McNeill took over the minister role from Jenny Chapman.
