A mountain rescue team serving the Scottish Borders is opening up its doors in a bid to attract new volunteers.
Moffat Mountain Rescue Team (MMRT) is staging a Recruitment Open Day designed to give local residents and outdoor enthusiasts a rare behind‑the‑scenes look at how volunteers deliver emergency search and rescue across Southern Scotland.
The event will take place on Sunday, October 18, 10am to 2pm at the MMRT base in Selkirk Road.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet operational team members, explore specialist equipment, and watch live demonstrations covering search techniques, casualty care, technical rigging and multi‑agency coordination.
The open day is aimed at anyone considering volunteering, as well as those who simply want to understand more about how mountain rescue operates.
MMRT is made up entirely of volunteers who give their time freely.
The team is particularly keen to welcome individuals who are motivated, community‑minded and willing to commit to regular training or can bring specialist coordination skills required to run a charity.
Team Leader John Burnham said: “Mountain rescue is built on ordinary people doing extraordinary things for their community.
“Our volunteers come from all walks of life, and the open day is a chance to see what we do, ask questions, and find out whether joining the team could be right for you.
“If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes, this is the perfect opportunity.”
