As many know, I love photography as a serious hobby. Landscapes, Wildlife, Sport, outdoor local festivals and events. Night photography is my particular favourite.
I am always looking for something different to photograph. When I saw news of the Morningside Umbrella Festival. It immediately took my interest.
I found it’s opening time in mornings and was there for 10am opening. I wanted church free of people in my images if it was possible.
I was met by two friendly members of the church congregation. Made my donation to the flat roof repair funds and got to work with my tripod and camera.
The colourful upturned Umbrellas display I found to be just as I hoped for. Fantastic. From the interior church balcony, I was able to look down onto the lines of almost floating umbrellas. Very cleverly set up.

Photography lighting challenges always appeal to me. Testing my photography skills. I moved my tripod position as I took each image. Patiently waiting as a lady was in my line of image for a time.
I then photographed the Umbrellas from ground level. Looking upwards to them with my camera.
I came away after about 30 minutes knowing I had some special images in my camera. Different ones from my usual areas of photography.
As I was leaving, families with toddlers were coming in to view the Umbrellas. So my early start to get images without people in them had paid off big time.
I would recommend a visit to the Morningside Umbrella Festival. It is on until 14th June. Several events planned. Check opening times so you are not disappointed and it is out with opening hours.
