Families visiting Vogrie Country Park can look forward to an exciting new adventure play experience, with Midlothian Council revealing plans for a major upgrade to the park’s popular play area.
The new equipment has been selected following a public consultation, with 335 individuals and families sharing their views on what they wanted to see included in the renewed play space. The adventure play area will partially close on Monday 12th October for preparatory work and will close fully while the equipment is installed from Monday 2nd November. The rest of the park will remain open as normal.
The investment forms part of the wider Vogrie Renewal Strategy and supports the aims of Midlothian Council’s Play Strategy.
The upgraded adventure play area will introduce more challenging and exciting play opportunities for older children, while also providing a more accessible and inclusive space for younger visitors and children with additional needs.
Features will include a large new adventure play structure with climbing towers, tunnels, rope-based play elements and slides, alongside a redesigned inclusive play area for children aged one to five. New accessible play equipment, sensory features and improved opportunities for children of all abilities to play together are also planned.
As part of the improvements, the existing large space net will be renewed and the ageing wooden fort will be removed for safety reasons.
Councillor Dianne Alexander, the Cabinet Member with responsibility for green spaces, said:
“We’re grateful to everyone who took the time to complete the survey and tell us what they wanted from Vogrie’s adventure play area. The feedback from 335 individuals and families has directly influenced the equipment chosen for the site.
“These improvements will create a more inclusive, accessible and exciting play space for children of all ages, while helping ensure Vogrie remains one of Midlothian’s most popular family destinations for years to come.”
The work is expected to take around 10 weeks, depending on the weather.
