Morrison Construction has been appointed to develop the detailed design for the replacement Beeslack Community High School, following a competitive tender process and approval by Midlothian Council.

The new school will have capacity for 1,200 pupils, with dining, gym halls and social spaces designed for up to 1,400. It will also include a swimming pool, Additional Support Needs provision, community facilities and external sports facilities.

The previously proposed Severe and Complex Medical Needs provision will instead be located at another site in Midlothian, with further details to be announced.

The new school is expected to open by the end of 2029.

A Proposal of Application Notice has now been submitted ahead of a full planning application expected in January 2027.

Residents can find out more and provide feedback at two drop-in events:

– Wednesday, October 21, 3.30pm–8pm, Beeslack Community High School

– Wednesday, November 11, 3.30pm–8pm, Bilston Primary School

Representatives from Midlothian Council and the project team will be available at both events.
