She has a wealth of expertise in organisational transformation, culture change and improving tenant and community outcomes.
Since 2021, Maria has served as SBHA’s chief operating officer, overseeing organisational performance, governance, asset management and digital transformation.
Ian McDonald, chair of SBHA’s board of management, said: “After a rigorous competitive recruitment process, the board of management is delighted to appoint Maria Lyle as our new chief executive.
“Maria brings proven leadership capability and a deep understanding of the organisation and our values, with a genuine commitment to tenants and communities.

SBHA was created by tenants for tenants and manages over 5,600 homes, supported by a dedicated team of 165 colleagues.
Its mission is to enhance lives and communities by providing homes, services, and opportunities that meet evolving needs, drive sustainable growth, and improve outcomes for everyone in the Scottish Borders.
The chief executive role was advertised with a salary between £137,315 to £152,327 p.a.
