Park reopening

Parklife in Berwickshire has been boosted by the reopening of a fun-filled facility.
Greenlaw Play Park is back in operation following a full refurbishment – providing a modern, accessible and inclusive play space for local children and families.
The refurbished facility was officially opened by Greenlaw Maid, Hayley-Anne Paxton, on Friday, June 19, at an event organised by the local community.
Outgoing Greenlaw Community Council chair, Margaret Douglas, delivered a short speech ahead of the formal opening, which was attended by Councillor John Greenwell, Councillor Donald Moffat, outgoing Community Council Secretary Hazel Paxton and pupils from the local primary school.
The project forms part of Scottish Borders Council’s ongoing investment in play facilities across the region and has seen the play park completely transformed with new equipment and safety surfacing.
The upgraded play area features ten pieces of equipment offering a wide range of play opportunities, including a four-tower multi-play unit incorporating a tall, covered tunnel slide, climbing net, rock climber, tunnel, pipe ladder and lower open slide.
Other new features include a triple-bay swing, an agility trail with overhead and tightrope walks, swaying ropes and rolling logs, as well as a carousel and springers.
Designed for children aged one year and above, many of the new installations include accessibility features, helping to ensure that children and young people of all ages and abilities can enjoy the facility.
Councillor John Greenwell, SBC’s executive member for Roads and Public Space Development, said: “It is fantastic to see Greenlaw Play Park reopened and being enjoyed by local children and families.
“This investment has delivered a high-quality, modern play space that offers a wide range of opportunities for children of different ages and abilities to play, explore and be active.
“The refurbishment reflects our commitment to investing in communities across the Scottish Borders and ensuring that children and young people have access to safe, inclusive and engaging outdoor spaces.
“I would like to thank the local community for their support and involvement throughout the project and hope the new facility will be enjoyed for many years to come.”
Greenlaw is the latest community to benefit from Scottish Borders Council’s play park improvement programme, which will see almost £5 million invested in enhancing play facilities and creating meaningful play opportunities for children and young people across the region.
The prioritised capital investment programme was agreed for the period 2022-2029, with improvements being planned in consultation with local communities across a range of sites.
Since 2022, Scottish Borders Council has completed the renewal of play parks in 24 communities across the Borders, ranging from destination play parks and skate parks to local community facilities.
