Last years Penicuik Pride

Written by Midlothian View Reporter, Liam Eunson

Marking its third year of bringing the community together to celebrate inclusion and diversity, Penicuik Pride is set to return ‘bigger and better than ever’ this June.

Started and organised by Food Facts Friends pantry founder and project manager Mark Wells, he has explained that he is ‘preparing to stage its biggest and most ambitious Pride event to date’.

Organised by a small team, this year’s pride is supported by a partnership with Penicuik’s Cuikoo Restaurant and Bar, hosting the event in the venue’s beer garden and nearby Wee Park.

The day-long Pride event takes place on 13 June, running from midday until 8pm.

Offering a packed programme of entertainment including live performances and drag shows, Mark explained that this year he is ‘pushing further than ever before’.

He added: “Three years ago we started this because we wanted to make sure everyone in Penicuik felt seen, welcomed and celebrated,” explains Mark Wells, CEO of Food Facts Friends. “It began as a small gathering, but every single year it has grown because of the support we get from local people.

“Arranging these events is never easy. It is incredibly challenging, very time-consuming, and involves months of planning, meetings, risk assessments and hard work behind the scenes. But when you see the community come together, smiling, celebrating and supporting one another, every single hour is worth it.

“This is our biggest event yet, and we want it to be a true showcase of what Penicuik is all about: a kind, inclusive and vibrant place to live. Pride isn’t just for one group of people – it is a celebration for the whole community.”

What to expect at this year’s event:

– Live Performances: The stage will be buzzing all afternoon with talented live singers and musicians bringing music for every taste.

– Drag Show: One of the highlights of the day will be a fabulous, high-energy drag show – bringing glitz, glamour and laughter to Penicuik.

– Information Stalls: A wide range of local organisations, charities and support services will be on hand with stalls, giving people the chance to find out about what is available in our area and how to get involved.

– Family Fun: There will be a designated picnic area – so bring your blankets and enjoy the atmosphere – plus an ice cream parlour, activities and plenty of space to relax and meet friends.

Organisers stress that this is an all-inclusive, family-friendly event, and everyone – regardless of age, background or identity – is warmly invited to come along, join the fun and show their support.
