Tranent Library has been gifted a piano from the Lang Lang Foundation

Youngsters are being given the chance to experience their own ‘Piano’ moment after two East Lothian libraries were given their own instrument thanks to the show’s star.
The Lang Lang Foundation has gifted two pianos to Tranent and North Berwick libraries to support The Reading Agency’s Summer of Reading programme across the county.
The international music foundation aims to make sure all children have access to music and musical instruments and the pianos will be available during library hours.
Musician Lang Lang fronted the Channel 4 show The Piano with singer Mika travelling around the country to let people audition on pianos set up in train stations for aspiring artists to play.
The programme saw people of all ages sit down at the keys with the best performers given the chance to take part in a final concert.
The new pianos are part of the annual Summer Reading Challenge held by libraries across the county during the school holidays.
The challenge encourages children aged four to 11 to read for fun and this year’s theme is Read to the Beat with the emphasis on the power of storytelling through music.
With incentives to collect and books to enjoy, the challenge includes a wide range of activities for youngsters including making their own musical instruments, creating a fairy garden and musical story times.
