Dynamic Earth

Away from the chaos of the Fringe, Dynamic Earth has welcomed back its planetarium experience of Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon, creating a visual and auditory experience that allows you to lay back and immerse yourself in the sound of Pink Floyd.
Set to the official 1973 album in spectacular surround sound, held in the planetarium, the music is complimented by breathtaking views of the solar system displayed onto Dynamic Earth’s 360 degrees digital dome.
Over half a century after Pink Floyd’s staple album ‘Dark Side of the Moon’, the experience is a truly unique way to experience the music. Even if you aren’t a die hard fan of Pink Floyd and only know the most popular songs like myself, it still makes for a fascinating and relaxing hour with the music perfectly complimenting the bizarre travel through space displayed in the planetarium.
Creating more of an experience than a typical show which is unique for the Fringe, it shows the high levels of production on offer during the festival, creating entertainment for anyone 18+ despite the age of the music played.
Upon immersing myself in the experience, the demographic of the audience varied with people of all ages above 18, displaying the popularity of Pink Floyd’s music.
Despite the iconic sounds of Pink Floyd creatively mixed with mesmerizing graphics on screen, not every Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon song was played with majority of the song’s instrumentals stretched out causing a lack of lyrics which elevates the bands music.
The graphics on screen took the audience travelling through space, entering different galaxies and circling planets within our own. One stand out was when the dome entered Saturn’s rings, blasting through small asteroids. Warning at the beginning that the experience can cause motion sickness, when the screen moved fast it caused a feeling that you were moving with it.
Celebrating 50 years of the iconic album, bringing the popular experience to the festival makes for an interesting hour of relaxation away from the stand-up comedy and busy streets of the Fringe. With the lights dimmed and the audience reclining beneath the enormous dome, the planetarium quickly became an escape from the noise and crowds outside.
‘Planetarium Lates: Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon’ is a 5/5 experience during this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe, creating a relaxing space away from the chaos of Edinburgh in August. Perfect for Pink Floyd fans.
