Six new homes are proposed at an historic farm in a rural hamlet in the Scottish Borders.

An application has been submitted to Scottish Borders Council for the change of use and sensitive conversion of the existing farmhouse and steading buildings at Romanno Mains Farm.

The farmhouse is currently the only occupied building within the group. The remaining steading buildings are predominantly vacant and are not currently in active use.

A report with the application states: “The proposed accommodation comprises a range of one, two- and three-bedroom homes, providing a mix of dwelling sizes suitable for a range of household requirements and supporting availability within the local housing market.

“Overall, the proposal represents a sustainable and appropriate reuse of an established traditional rural farmstead rather than the introduction of a new-build housing development within the countryside.

“It will bring vacant and under-used buildings back into productive use, secure their long-term maintenance and provide a range of high-quality homes while retaining and enhancing the established character of Romanno Mains Farm.”
