BAFTA-nominated Rosie Jones has brought her new show, ‘I Can’t Tell What She’s Saying’, to this year's festival

The Taskmaster star has returned to this year’s Fringe, treating Edinburgh to a comedy stacked performance that covers everything from her disability to her life long love for gravy.
Highlighting her ‘national treasure’ status throughout the show, BAFTA-nominated Rosie Jones has brought her new show, ‘I Can’t Tell What She’s Saying’, to this year’s festival, following a nomination for Most Outstanding Show at Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2023.
Rosie Jones treats the audience to raunchy comedy where she creatively circles serious themes, such as life with cerebral palsy and her difficulties finding a life partner, with jokes that circle back throughout the performance.
The British comedian, writer and actress is known for her work across TV, Radio and the standup circuit, becoming a household name for her appearances on The Last Leg, 8 Out of 10 Cats and Would I Lie to You?
Gaining widespread critical acclaim at the Fringe with her 2018 debut hour, Rosie has become a veteran presence at the Festival, becoming known for using her cerebral palsy, cheekyness and misdirection to disarm audiences.
Explaining that she has become a symbol of hope for disabled people looking to enter the entertainment industry, Rosie uses her disability to her advantage, not being afraid to crack jokes about it and base jokes around it.
Her new show has seen success this year, filling out Pleasance’s Cabaret Bar every day, which was the case during my visit. Selling-out a room filled with all ages 16+, the comedian commanded the stage from the get go, entering the room to a deafening applause.
Her delivery is top class, perfecting comedic timing and crowd work. Highlighting issues about her disability with her speech, Rosie has strong pacing and rhythm, using dramatic pauses to let a joke land effectively.
Not afraid to be raunchy and at times dark, Rosie circles taboo topics that creates shock value that will only leave you in stitches despite the mixed feelings it may create.
The show is easiest explained as an entertaining storytelling hour littered with creative comedy, one-liners and call back comedy. Covering important topics and societal issues, Rosie can comedically dance around these topics whilst giving the serious topics enough time to send a positive message.
Using her disability as a topic for the show, she doesn’t dominate the performance discussing her own issues, using them as a catalyst for humour.
‘I Can’t Tell What She’s Saying’ is a confident hour from a comedian who knows exactly how to manipulate an audience. Jones manages to make uncomfortable subjects hilarious without losing sight of the people and experiences behind them.
Rosie Jones is a stand out comedian at this year’s festival, bringing a 5/5 performance center stage that leaves no breaks in laughter.
