Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP Duncan Dunlop has praised the campaign to secure a standalone primary school for Eyemouth

A successful campaign which secured a standalone primary school for Eyemouth will help “preserve the innocence” of young people in the town, an MSP for South Scotland believes.
Last week Scottish Borders Council dropped an option to re-locate pupils from the town primary school into Eyemouth High School, amid overwhelming local opposition.
Lib Dem MSP Duncan Dunlop said the campaign which forced a change of heart was “what local politics should be all about”.
He said: “It’s really good news that Eyemouth has managed to secure a standalone primary school following a really strong campaign.
“Well done for Scottish Borders Council for seeing sense and really well done to James Anderson, independent councillor and ourselves in the Lib Dems who have always supported this, for myself as an MSP and our councillors.
“For me, having worked with young people most of my life, this is about preserving the innocence of young people to have their own space so they can be free to grow and develop right at the heart of Eyemouth.
“This is what local politics should be all about. Well done Eyemouth and everyone who led this campaign, it’s great to see it happening.”
