Outlet was WH Smith until last year

The Scottish Borders has suffered another retail hammer blow with news that a major retail outlet will close its doors early in the New Year.
Stationery and book chain TG Jones at Channel Street in Galashiels is to shut up shop for good on January 9.
The Post Office is also located within the premises with currently “no news” of on an alternative location for it.
It was only in May last year that TG Jones took over the former WH Smith outlet on the shopping thoroughfare, which has been hit by a series of closures in recent years, including Poundland and Dorothy Perkins.
A spokesperson for TG Jones said: “We regret to announce that TG Jones Galashiels will be closing its doors for the last time on the 9th of January 2027.
“There will be a closing sale until then starting on September 29th.
“At the present time we have no news of any post office relocation. We wish to thank our customers who have shopped with us over the years.”
Customers have reacted with sadness to the news, one stating: “It’s been at the same location for decades with slightly different names on the door, John Menzies then WH Smith.
“It’s hard for this type of business to keep up with the new technology world we live in.”
Another remarked: “Nae wonder. Use them or lose them. Never seen two folk in there. The only busy part is the Post Office.”
TG Jones is closing dozens of stores across the UK as part of a major restructuring plan approved by the High Court.
The closures come after parent company Modella Capital sought to reduce costs following long-term sales declines and rising operational expenses.
