Bowls Midlothian President Jim Hiddleston with Fiona Ireland NWH and the £450 donation

As part of their Community Fund, the NWH Group supported Bowls Midlothian’s Youth Academy with a donation of £450.
Vowels Midlothian’s brand new academy was launched in May this year with classes taking place on a Friday afternoon from 2pm to 4pm at various greens around Midlothian, with the most recent held at Easthouses.
Development and Academy Lead form Bowls Midlothian, Dahrlene Tough, explained that the support ‘will assist with the training of coaches, transport costs to competitions, purchasing kit and bowls aids’.
She added: ‘We are incredibly grateful to NWH for this donation to join our other funders who are supporting young people to enjoy the wellbeing benefits of the sport’.
Jim Hiddleston, Bowls Midlothian President, explained: “The Youth Academy together with our engagement with Active Schools is our top priority for 2026. This fantastic support from NWH will help us build on the momentum and growth for the future.”
The NWH Group is one of the UK’s leading recycling and waste management businesses, providing sustainable commercial waste management, skip hire, and environmental services. Their community fund is an annual initiative that provides donations to local, community-led charities across Scotland and North East England. Since its launch in 2016, the fund has distributed over £180,000.
Fiona Ireland from NWH explained: “We are delighted to support this exciting new initiative taking place in Midlothian and anything that takes young people away from their screens to enjoy a social and fun sport really meets the objectives of our funding.”
