I’m standing to be your next MSP for Midlothian North as a Scottish Labour and Cooperative candidate because I want to help make it the best place in Scotland to live for everyone who lives here, at every stage of life.
I’m a mum. I’ve raised my children around here, and like any parent, I want them to grow up in a place that is safe, supportive, and full of opportunity. I want that not just for my own family, but for every family across Midlothian.
My background is in housing, and I’ve spent years working on one of Scotland’s biggest challenges. We are in a housing emergency, and we need urgent action to end homelessness by 2040 and ensure children are no longer growing up in temporary accommodation.
Here in Midlothian, we are building homes, but we need roads, GP surgeries, childcare, and homes that are genuinely affordable, so people aren’t priced out of the communities they grew up in.
We are one of the fastest growing constituencies in Scotland, and we need to make Midlothian North not just a place to pass though, but a real home. I want people to feel like they belong here. Where local businesses thrive, town centres are busy, and people can spend their time and money locally.
Over the past few months, I’ve spoken to thousands of people, and they agree. People want the basics to work. They want safe streets, access to childcare, fair taxation for improving services, security as they age, and an NHS that is there when we need it, that’s free at the point of use and accessible without long waits.
But I know that right now, many of us feel like that’s not the case.
Like you, I rely on public services. And I also feel the frustration when they don’t deliver, whether that’s buses that don’t run, potholes that damage cars, rising council tax, or struggling to get a GP appointment. After 20 years of SNP government, too many of these everyday issues have been allowed to slide. It’s time for change, and Scottish Labour is ready to deliver it.
Midlothian North has huge potential. I want to help make it the best place in Scotland to live, grow up, and build a future.
If you believe it’s time to fix the mess, get the basics right, and deliver a better future, I’d be honoured to have your vote
