When speaking to the press following his victory at the Scottish Open, Tom Kim stated how he ‘always wanted to come back and really really wanted to win’ this tournament. He cried in the recording office when he found out that he had definitely won following Min Woo Lee’s par on the 18th. He told the press that ‘if it wasn’t for all this media and photos I would probably go into my room and cry for a couple of hours.’ He described the moment as surreal.
He surprisingly said that he is ‘not really going to carry this into next week’ explaining that golf is a ‘very up and down sport.’ He has ‘learned’ over the years that in these situations he needs ‘to put it behind’ him and ‘move on.’
He said how he is going to ‘call the people that mean the world to me’ and that Tiger Woods was the first person to message him following his win today.
He spoke about the Scottish fans describing them as ‘one of the best in the world’ and that they ‘understand what a good shot is.’ He added that ‘it’s the home of golf so to win a trophy here is awesome for me.’
It was an impressive display by Kim this week, with a final round of 64, winning the tournament by two strokes ahead of Min Woo Lee who finished 15 under for the weekend.
