Tickets for the opening ceremony of the 2027 Tour de France at Edinburgh Castle will go on sale this week, with prices starting at £27.

The ceremony, which will feature the presentation of the riders ahead of the men’s race, will take place from 6.30pm on Wednesday, June 30, giving fans the chance to witness the start of the historic Grand Départ in Scotland’s capital.

A pre-sale for subscribers to the official Grand Départ GB newsletter opens at midday on Friday, October 23, with general sale beginning at midday on Friday, October 30.

Members of British Cycling, Scottish Cycling and Beicio Cymru will be able to access a pre-sale from midday on Saturday, October 24, while customers of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo will have access from midday on Monday, October 26.

The ceremony will take place against the backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, combining elite cycling with a celebration of Scottish culture.

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo will help deliver the event, which is set to feature Highland dancers, massed pipes and drums, and new music created specifically for the occasion.

The ceremony will mark the beginning of the 114th men’s Tour de France, which departs from Edinburgh on Friday, July 2.

Next summer will also mark the first time the men’s and women’s Tour de France races have been held in the same country outside France, with millions of spectators expected to watch the world’s biggest free-to-view sporting event.

While the opening ceremony and rider presentation will take place on the Castle Esplanade, celebrations will extend throughout Edinburgh, giving spectators opportunities to see the cyclists travelling to the venue.

Following the Grand Départ in Edinburgh, the men’s race will head south to Carlisle before continuing through the Lake District to Liverpool and then into Wales, finishing in Cardiff.

Further information about ticket sales and the event is available at the official Tour de France Grand Départ GB website.
