Historical and cultural venues across the Scottish Borders are being encouraged to open their doors free of charge.
Doors Open Days Festival 2026 takes place over the weekend of September 5th and 6th.
This year’s theme is ‘Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine’ and venues, companies, building managers and local groups across the region are invited to get involved by hosting an event.
The festival highlights the need to protect, celebrate, and adapt our shared heritage in an era of environmental, social, and economic change.
The annual event, which is organised by the Scottish Civic Trust, is Scotland’s largest festival that provides access to some of the most interesting and historically significant buildings in the area whilst celebrating places and stories.
All events are free and take place in person and online.
Councillor Simon Mountford, Scottish Borders Council’s executive member for Planning and Community Assets, said: “It’s fantastic to welcome the Doors Open Days Festival back for another year.
“The festival provides a unique opportunity for venues and organisations across the region to engage with new audiences and showcase everything they have to offer.
“This year’s festival highlights the environmental, social, and economic challenges facing our communities, while celebrating how our region is responding and adapting to them.
“I encourage everyone with a story to share to consider hosting an event. It’s a wonderful opportunity to attract visitors from across the country and beyond, while strengthening connections with local communities.”
The festival offers a fantastic opportunity to share your story, engage with local communities and showcase the unique heritage of the Borders.
Taking part is flexible and can include opening your building to visitors, hosting guided tours, talks, demonstrations or exhibitions, or providing digital or online content.
