Villagers are being asked to sign on the dotted line to make a small close-knit Borders community “richer and stronger”.

The village of Heriot is about a 40-minute drive from Edinburgh and also close to the Borders railway station at Gorebridge.

The village – near the region’s northern boundary – has about 160 houses.

Now new members of Heriot Community Trust are being sought.

The Trust has been created to make life in Heriot “richer, stronger, and more connected for people of all ages”.

It works to improve recreational facilities, create social and educational opportunities and improve the village’s beautiful natural environment.

A Trust spokesperson said: “Our first project is to buy and develop land to the north of Heriot Station for the whole community.

“By becoming a member, you will be kept up to date with our work and how to you can get involved.”

There are three kinds of membership.

Ordinary membership is open to everyone over 16 years old that lives in Heriot. This gives you an opportunity to become involved in the decision-making and planning of projects, to vote at Annual General Meetings and participate in elections for directors of the Trust.

Associate membership is to people over 16 who do not live in Heriot.

And junior membership is open to people between the ages of 12 and 15 years.

The plan is to hold a first members’ meeting of Heriot Community Trust in June.
