Hearts keeper Beau Reus spoke to the press yesterday ahead of Rangers tonight.

First, he was asked if there is anything different about being a goalkeeper in Scotland compared to elsewhere. Beau went on to say about how he has to keep being,

“A man, being strong in duels and stuff like this, you see how my hand was pretty damaged after the Hibs game, where you see like a loose ball and the guy just jumped on my hand.

“It’s stuff that doesn’t happen in Belgium or in other competitions. So, yeah, just show yourself and be strong in these moments.”

He went on to say about how you must defend yourself in certain situations,

“Really important also with the high balls, with corners, they grab your glove, grab your stuff, and yeah, just be strong, push the guys away, fight with them, and yeah, be stronger than them.”

He later explained the methods he uses to defend himself,

“You just have to be smart. I cannot swing my arm and give a penalty away. So you have to be smart, but yeah, small things, stepping on guys’ toes or just use your elbow a little bit, just smart things”

He was then asked about whether the manager has been speaking to the team about how big the occasion is tonight and how to deal with it. Not only because it is Rangers, but because it is the return of last season’s manager, Derek McInnes, as well as club captain Shankland, and Devlin who was a huge man in midfield for Hearts last year; although Shankland and Devlin won’t be playing due to injury.

The Belgian replied to say that they are treating it as any other game,

“I think it’s very important because if you put too much stress on it, I think, yeah, you always only shoot yourself in the foot. So, yeah, just do your thing and that’s the thing we need to do.”

Speaking about Sunday’s win away at Motherwell,

“The storm is something that I’ve never seen before, I think in Belgium, they cancelled the game for such a storm,

I think the game itself was not our best game on the ball, but I think without the ball and fighting for every metre of the pitch, I think we showed a lot of heart and, yeah, on a different way, really happy with the performance of Sunday.

When asked about what the result on Sunday after a busy couple of weeks, as well as a huge injury crisis says about the squad as a whole, the Hearts keeper replied,

“Yeah, it’s just helping each other if you have to. For example, now Mato has to play another position, you speak a lot with him. For me, I try to help him when we are on the ball and off the ball, try to help him what he can do best if we are close to the box. And I see other guys with some experience speak with him, help him.

So, yeah, we are a really close team. Everyone gets along really well with each other. So yeah, it’s a big, big positive.”
