Marink Reedijk speaks to the press after the defeat to Celtic on Saturday.

Following Hibs’ defeat to current champions Celtic, Reedijk spoke to the press.

He was in a very good mood, seeming upbeat and almost excited. You could tell he was happy with what he was seeing from his team.

I think many fans will have the same feeling as well, as they took Celtic right to the very end, not letting up.

Speaking on his initial analysis of the game he said,

“I think they didn’t create a lot until the moment we started to play a little bit more opportunistic. And I think we had two, three very good chances, which need to be a goal, at least one.”

He also added, “that’s really important for me that I see these steps in the right direction”

Reedijk was happy with the improvements he saw when comparing his sides performance between Dundee United and Falkirk.

Once again, we see this positive outlook by Reedijk, focussing on the positives and improvement, giving encouraging signs that Hibs will get back to their best again.

He showcased this optimism when he stated, “We can be the equals of Celtic”

Now for the main talking point of the game. Many fans calling it the greatest thing they’ve seen this season; Hanley being subbed on up front with 8 minutes to go.

Speaking on this decision, the Hibs’ boss said,

“I wanted to impact something, I wanted to create a little bit of chaos, spoke with Grant about it, and he did a fantastic job in executing. I think we got two good chances because of that, and it can be an equaliser.”

Many fans agree with Reedijk that Hanley did very much impact the game in a positive way and made Celtic almost a little startled.

However, other fans are looking at the negative side of this decision, stating their concerns over Hibs’ attacking threat, highlighting the fact that if you’re having to sub on a centre back when chasing an equaliser against the reigning champions, what does that say about the quality of attacking players within the Hibs squad.

When asked about whether that forward position is a place where Reeedijk will be looking to strengthen come the January window, Reedijk replied that January is a long time away and how he is focussing on the games coming up.

He did say that they do need to plan mid-term, however getting results are the most important thing on his mind now.

Joe Newell stepped in last minute as Boyle fell ill during the warmup.

When the manager was asked about how well Joe responded by the way he played today following his loss of captaincy and being called upon so late, Reedijk stated,

“It’s very professional. It’s very good what he does there. And again, it’s not easy to come on being called up so late. And if you see how he plays, also not played for a longer period of time, and then he finishes off for so long as well in the game. That’s also a compliment worth.”

Finally talking about if Boyle will be available for midweek’s trip to Paisley,

“We have to see. He went home during kick-off, I believe, and look, first let him sleep, and take some time, decide and see how it is tomorrow.”
