Viktor Hovland today was in good spirits as he looks on to the Scottish Open. He touched on how he is feeling ‘more relaxed’, not as ‘stressed out’ as he feels his game is in a good place following his performances over the last few weeks.
In terms of his mentality, he spoke about how he’s learnt over his career that his game doesn’t need to be ‘perfect’ it just needs to be ‘good enough.’ You have to ‘believe’ and not just ‘focus’ on the ‘bad shots’, you need to see the ‘good shots’ and ‘perform’ as well as you can with the ‘things you have got.’ Something he felt he has been doing in recent tournaments including the Travellers where he won the playoff against the world number 1 Scottie Sheffler.
When asked a similar question that Jon Rahm had been asked earlier in the day, about what specific shot is vital for links golf, he replied that controlling your ball flight and being able to hit a low piercing ball flight is a crucial shot to have in your locker considering how long the ball can run on these firm fairways.
When asked about the World Cup and the fact Norway will be playing England in the quarter final at the weekend, he spoke about how it was a ‘very sensitive subject’ for the English golfers, so he might ‘cut them too deep’ if he pushes them. He did however say that he hopes England loses and they come ‘crying out’ on Sunday morning.
When the Scotland England rivalry was mentioned, he suggested a mass row on the first tee on Sunday if Norway are victorious.
