A 15-year-old Dalkeith bowler was the star of the show after winning three titles at Bowls Midlothian’s biggest-ever Finals Day.
Jacek Goldie, of Dalkeith Bowling Club, claimed the Under-18s pairs alongside 16-year-old Kaitlyn Rodger, as well as the Under-18s singles and Under-21s singles.
The championships were held at the Fisherrow Bowling Centre, home of Musselburgh Municipal Bowling Club, on Sunday.
The event was billed as a Festival of Bowls, with players of all ages from clubs across Midlothian competing across a range of disciplines.
A total of 30 finals were scheduled across three sessions, with the championships featuring the Under-13s for the first time and a new Over-70s Masters competition.
Bowls Midlothian President, Jim Hiddleston said:
“Bowls Midlothian held their biggest ever Finals Day at the Fisherrow Bowling Centre Musselburgh on Sunday 30th Aug at the home of Musselburgh Municipal Bowling Club. This was a Festival of Bowls celebrating a range of disciplines including for the first year Under 13 Championships and also a new event Over 70’s Masters. Overall 30 Finals were played over 3 Sessions.”
Jacek’s three-title haul made him the standout performer of the day, with the young bowler pictured proudly holding his trophies.
However, torrential rain and thunder brought the third session to an early end, meaning some finals could not be completed.
The remaining matches will be played at Musselburgh on Tuesday evening, September 2.
Bowls Midlothian described the event as its biggest Finals Day to date, bringing together competitors from across the county for a celebration of the sport.
