Dunbar railway station is set to receive 100 new cycle spaces as part of plans to improve active travel facilities.
ScotRail has announced plans for a new cycle hub in the station car park, coinciding with Scottish Climate Week, which runs from September 28 to October 4.
The facility will provide secure cycle storage along with CCTV and a cycle maintenance stand.
It will also include dedicated spaces for four non-standard bikes, including adapted and cargo cycles.
The investment is being delivered through the Scottish Government’s 2023 UCI Legacy Cycling Investment Programme.
The plans follow recent work by Network Rail and East Lothian Council to improve active travel access on the south side of Dunbar station.
The improvements are intended to make it easier for passengers to combine cycling with rail travel as part of their journeys.
Graeme Baillie, ScotRail Safety and Sustainability Director, said Dunbar was an “important station for the local community”.
He added: “We want to make it as easy as possible for people to choose more sustainable ways of getting to and from the railway.
“These improvements will significantly increase the amount of cycle storage available at the station, while providing secure and modern facilities for riders.
“Making it easier to combine cycling and rail is an important part of encouraging more sustainable journeys, and combined with the improvements delivered by Network Rail and East Lothian Council, this investment will help make Dunbar station better connected to the community it serves.”
