A headteacher has expressed delight after her Scottish Borders school received a thumbs up from inspectors.
A report from His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education in Scotland recognised several key strengths at Trinity Primary School in Hawick.
During their visit in June this year, inspectors talked to parents, carers and children and worked closely with the headteacher and staff.
It was found that children are friendly and polite and demonstrate the school values well.
They show respect, compassion and kindness to each other and are keen to learn.
Senior leaders and staff have worked well together to create a learning environment where all children are included, valued and cared for.
Children are also well supported, motivated and participate enthusiastically in their learning.
It was also noted that staff use digital technologies skilfully to improve and enrich children’s learning and that children are confident in their creative use of technology across the school.
Two areas for improvement were identified and discussed with the headteacher and a representative from Scottish Borders Council.
Staff and senior leaders should develop their approaches to assessing children’s progress. They should ensure the information gathered is used more effectively to plan learning and experiences that meets the needs of all children.
And staff should continue to raise attainment, particularly in reading and writing, for all children.
Headteacher Lynn Hodgins said: “I am delighted with the outcome of our recent inspection and feel very proud of our whole school community. I am particularly proud of our wonderful children; their excellent behaviour and commitment to learning shines through our feedback.
“I am very pleased that HMIE recognised our strong focus on well-being and meeting children’s needs and the positive impact this is having on children’s attainment and achievement.
“I would like to pay tribute to our whole staff team who consistently go above and beyond expectation to ensure the best for our children and also to our parents and carers whose continuous support is essential to the success of our school as a whole.”
Trinity Primary Parent Council Chair, Kathryn Brownhill, added: “I’m delighted to see such a positive inspection report and to see the hard work and dedication of the whole school team recognised.
“As parents and carers, it is particularly important to us that our children feel included, valued and supported, and it’s wonderful to see this highlighted so strongly by HMIE.
“We’re incredibly proud of our children and the kindness, respect and enthusiasm they show, and very grateful to the staff who work so hard to ensure every child is supported to learn, achieve and thrive. This is a fantastic reflection of the strong and caring school community we are very proud to be part of.”
Trinity Primary Parent Council Chair, Amy Lynn, also added: “The report highlights the positive, caring, and inclusive environment that has been created at Trinity Primary School.
“It is wonderful to see the hard work of pupils, staff and senior leadership recognised in such a positive way. This report is testament to a truly thriving school community, of which I am proud to be a part off. I great confidence in the school’s future and its continued journey of improvement”
Inspectors are confident that the school has the capacity to continue to improve and will make no more visits in connection with this inspection.
