October starts with a packed music programme at Corn Exchange, Haddington, in response to feedback from audiences who enjoy a range of music styles.
A highlight this month has to be FARA on Saturday 10 October. Inspired by the rich traditions of the Orkney Islands, FARA convey the dynamic sound and beautiful emotion of Scottish folk music in their incredible, award winning performances.
Those who enjoy Trad music should also try Ímar on Friday 30 October. This Irish/Manx/Scottish quintet is amongst Glasgow’s hottest folk property and a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winner. Imar’s music is a mesmerising blend of bodhrán, bouzouki, concertina, uilleann pipes and fiddle.
You can celebrate some of the best loved female rock legends of our time with Women In Rock, paying homage to Suzi Quatro, Cher, Blondie, Belinda Carlise, Pink and more on Saturday 3 October.
Brothers In Band bring the very best of Dire Straits tribute show on Sunday 11 October. Angelo Fumarola’s voice, posture, expressiveness and remarkable guitar playing, bring back the Mark Knopfler of a bygone era.
On Wednesday 14 October, Do I Love You – Northern Live comes to the Corn Exchange with an 11 piece band and four vocalists to perform over 30 Northern Soul hits from Gloria Jones, Al Wilson, Garnet Mimms and more.
The undercover detective Peter Bleksley brings fascinating stories to Haddington’s Corn Exchange on Monday 5 October with The Makings of a Murderer.
A founding member of Scotland Yard’s undercover unit and former star of Channel 4’s Hunted, he lifts the lid on the most dangerous and hidden aspects of murder investigations.
From the gritty realities of infiltrating criminal gangs to his own terrifying experience of becoming the target of a murder plot, Peter shares untold stories of the most high-stakes cases, in this unforgettable evening of true crime.
Gilded Balloon is well known as a prestigious Edinburgh Festival Fringe venue, and they also tour rip-roaring comedy nights throughout the year. Settle in for The Big Comedy Roadshow with well-known live stand-ups and the hottest up and coming acts on Friday 16 October. The Brunton welcomes social media star Jack Skipper, Irish comedian Alison Spittle, Scottish BAFTA winner Raymond Mearns, rising star Tamsyn Kelly and MC Gareth Mutch to Haddington.
This autumn local cinema comes to Haddington with a programme of recent releases at Corn Exchange in Haddington. Bookers are invited to give it a tray and pay what they choose from £3 to £10.
The next titles are Tony on Thursday 1 October. Based on Anthony Bourdain’s memoir Kitchen Confidential – the young Anthony lands a job in a chaotic restaurant kitchen, launching a summer of discovery.
This is followed by Pressure on Thursday 15 October. As D-Day looms General Eisenhower (Brendan Fraser) and Musselburgh born meteorologist Captain James Stagg (Andrew Scott), face a high-stakes decision with the future of the war at stake.
